You need to make a decision

Good advanced practice names uncertainty, tests what new evidence would change the decision and asks whether the next step is proportionate.

1. State the decision you are being asked to make.
2. Separate facts, inferences, assumptions and unknowns.
3. Name the safeguarding risk if you under-react.
4. Name the dignity, safety or evidence risk if you over-react.
5. Identify what new information would change your view.
6. Choose the safest proportionate action within your role.
